Thapa commits to finalizing Education Act soon

Kathmandu, September 18 — Gagan Kumar Thapa, the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, announced that the government's common minimum program will be made public today (Wednesday) evening.

Speaking at the National Education Day event held in Mulapani, Kathmandu, he stated that the program includes a proposal to expedite the passage of the new Education Act.

Thapa indicated that preparations are underway to pass the Education Act at the very beginning of the upcoming parliamentary session. He mentioned that the plan is to advance the passage of the Education Act during the winter session of Parliament, which will start shortly after the Dashain and Tihar festivals.

Thapa suggested that political parties involved in the committee, including the Congress, CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), and the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party, should form coalitions based on party lines to facilitate agreement on the passage.

He stated, “This evening, we will need to announce the common minimum program of the newly formed government. We are working on that program, and while doing so, we are stating that we will pass the Education Act immediately. However, it’s not just about writing it down; it involves parliamentary action. The government cannot do it alone; Parliament must work together.”

Thapa expressed his commitment to finalizing the Education Act in the near future.
