Special committee recommends action against Rabi Lamichhane
Kathmandu, September 16 — The Parliamentary Special Committee on Cooperative Misuse has recommended action against Rabi Lamichhane and others involved in transferring cooperative funds to Gorkha Media Network.
In the report submitted on Monday, the committee stated, “Every company has its own objectives and core functions. The directors or shareholders of a company are primarily responsible for such institutions.”
The committee clarified that share members, directors, and managing directors of any company are expected to be responsible and accountable for the funds received by the company.
The report noted, “Account holders and signatories involved in financial operations must assume responsibility for their roles.”
It further stated that since cooperative savings were irregularly transferred to Gorkha Media Network’s account, the involvement in the expenditure and handling of these funds indicates that the responsible parties—Chairman Giten Babu Rai, Member Kumar Ramtel, then-Managing Director Rabi Lamichhane, and Director Chhabilal Joshi—are accountable for the funds received from the cooperatives.
The committee has recommended that the Nepal Government take legal action against these individuals as per prevailing laws.
