Maoists question: How should the Jhapa rebellion and the 1950 movement be interpreted?
Kathmandu, September 16 — The CPN (Maoist Centre) has recorded its disagreement, objection, and protest against the ruling party's MPs' comments regarding the term "violence."
During the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, Maoist MP Shakti Basnet questioned, "If we interpret revolution as violence, what do we say about the Jhapa Rebellion and the 2007 movement?" He added that despite their disagreement, objection, and protest regarding the use of the term "violence" by ruling party MPs, the opposition did not protest during the parliamentary session due to the Prime Minister's visit to the U.S.
Basnet stated, "If revolution is described as violence, what should we say about the Jhapa Rebellion and the 2007 movement? Based on the fundamental nature of these movements, expressing views that belittle and demean the role of People's War is unacceptable to our party, and we want to record our disagreement, objection, and protest."
He also noted that the fact that the decade-long struggle was not merely a problem but fundamentally a solution has been confirmed with the establishment of the new constitution and the republic, which cannot be ignored.
