Further investigation recommended for Dhanraj Gurung in cooperative scam
Kathmandu, September 16 — The parliamentary investigation committee on cooperative fraud has reported that documents indicate Dhanraj Gurung, who is also a vice-president of the Nepali Congress, is involved in the embezzlement of cooperative funds.
According to the committee's report, approximately 140 million rupees from the Miteri Savings and Credit Cooperative in Lalitpur have been misappropriated, with Dhanraj Gurung and his wife, Jyoti Gurung, found to be involved.
The investigation committee, which was prompted by a complaint from the Miteri Cooperative’s management, conducted a field study of the cooperative. The committee has agreed to recommend further investigation by state agencies into Gurung’s activities.
A committee member stated, "Initially, Dhanraj Gurung was not included in the committee's terms of reference. However, after a complaint was received, the committee examined his statements and documents, including divorce papers, which raised concerns about the legitimacy of his claimed divorce. This is not a conclusion but a suspicion."
Based on the evidence collected, the committee has agreed to recommend further investigation into Gurung’s involvement.
"The investigation is not yet complete; however, the committee has agreed to recommend writing to relevant authorities for further investigation into Gurung's case," the member added.
