Dengue outbreak: Two deaths reported in Jhapa; 1065 infected in Koshi

Jhapa, September 9 — Two individuals have died from dengue in Jhapa since Shrawan. A total of 1,065 people has been infected with this disease in Koshi Province during this period.

According to Birendra Das, the dengue focal person at the District Health Office, the victims in Jhapa were 42-year-old Bimala Dahal Paudel from Haldibari-3 and eight-year-old Alok Jung Basnet from Birtamod-4. The number of dengue cases in Jhapa alone has reached 128 since Shrawan 1.

Among the districts in Koshi Province, Morang has reported the highest number of dengue cases with 532. Following Morang, Jhapa, Dhankuta, and Sunsari have also seen significant numbers of infections. Taplejung has not reported any dengue cases.

Suraksha Khatri, the focal person at the Health Directorate in Dhankuta, informs that 80 people in Dhankuta and 70 people in Sunsari have contracted dengue.

Additionally, there have been 69 cases in Udaypur, 68 in Bhojpur, 67 in Sankhuwasabha, 29 in Okhaldhunga, 21 in Panchthar, six in Solukhumbu, five in Ilam, four in Khotang, and two in Terhathum. From Baisakh to Asar, a total of 386 dengue cases were recorded in Koshi Province.

In Birtamod of Jhapa specifically, there have been 81 reported cases of dengue since Shrawan 1. Likewise, 22 cases were confirmed in Damak, seven in Haldibari, and five in Bhadrapur.
