Government to monitor distribution of scholarships to underprivileged students, says PM Oli
Kathmandu, September 6 — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced that the government will oversee the distribution of scholarships to ensure that underprivileged students receive the funds allocated to them at all local levels.
Prime Minister Oli posted on Facebook on Friday that community schools have been allocated 18,000 rupees per year for underprivileged students in grades 6-10 and 24,000 rupees per year for students studying science. A total grant of 600 million rupees has been provided for this purpose.
Additionally, he mentioned that scholarships ranging from 1,000 to 3,500 rupees per student have been given to 22 non-resident students from scheduled castes and marginalized groups studying in public schools in remote areas.
Under the non-resident scholarship program, 1.55 million students nationwide will receive scholarships, with a total allocation of 59 million rupees.
Prime Minister Oli also noted that residential scholarships of 5,000 rupees per month have been awarded to 11,400 students from seven target groups, including those from educationally disadvantaged communities and extreme Himalayan districts.
The Prime Minister added that the scholarship funds have been transferred as conditional grants, with the cost per student calculated at each local level. The relevant procedures have been posted on the Ministry of Education's website.
