Transformer malfunction disrupts power supply in Janakpur

Kathmandu, September 5 — Power supply in the Janakpur area has been disrupted due to an issue with one of the power transformers at the Dhalkebar substation in Dhanusa.

Out of the two 132/33 KV, 63 MVA transformers at the Dhalkebar substation, one has been malfunctioning since Tuesday evening. The two transformers typically handle a combined load of 90 MVA, but the malfunction has cut off 30 MVA of this load.

As a result, power supply to Janakpurdham, Yadukuwa, Dhanushadham, Sakhuwain Dhanusa, Jaleshwar, Gaushala, Bardibas in Mahottari, Bhiman in Sindhuli and other areas supplied by this substation has been affected.

Munindra Thakur, Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Madhesh Province Office, stated that electricity is being sourced from Sursand, India, through a 33 KV transmission line to mitigate the power disruption caused by the damaged transformers.

Thakur also mentioned that the Sursand-Jaleshwar line had been obstructed by tree saplings, which have now been removed, and efforts are underway to restore the line by Friday.

Binod Lohani, Head of the Dhalkebar Grid Division, indicated that discussions are ongoing with the manufacturing company to address and resolve the transformer issue.
