Former IGP Forum demands apology from Minister Gurung
Kathmandu, September 3 — The ‘Ex-Nepal Police Organization Forum’, an association of former Inspectors General of Nepal Police, has called for Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung to issue an apology.
The Forum’s statement argues that Minister Gurung’s comments, which suggested that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) should have his ‘tongue plucked out,’ infringe on freedom of expression.
The statement urges the Minister to retract his comments and apologize to both the Nepal Police Organization and the IGP, and to exercise greater caution when commenting on security agencies in the future.
The former IGP Forum has also asked the Prime Minister to take appropriate action on this matter. Former IGP Dhiraj Pratap Singh urged organization leaders and security personnel to remain calm.
Minister Gurung made inappropriate remarks about the IGP in Pokhara on September 1.
