Myagde residents struggle without proper bridge
Myagde (Tanahun), August 31—Residents near the executive office in Myagde Rural Municipality are grappling with significant challenges due to the lack of a proper bridge over the river. The communities of Bhattaraithok, Beltar, Nilare, and Koiralathok in Ward No. 3 have been suffering for an extended period due to the absence of a bridge in their area.
Specifically, the lack of a bridge at Budikhola, situated about 100 meters north of the Prithvi Highway, has severely hampered daily transportation, leaving locals frustrated and disillusioned with the local government's inaction.
The situation has reached a critical point, as the risk of a serious accident is ever-present. Despite numerous appeals for the construction of a bridge, the local government has not given this issue the attention it requires.
Locals are compelled to repair the makeshift wooden bridge every year because their requests for a permanent, sturdy bridge continue to be ignored.
Deepak Bhattarai, a resident of the area, emphasizes the hardship faced by children, students, and the elderly who must cross the river daily. He notes that, despite these challenges, the local government has failed to take any meaningful steps to address the problem.
Bhattarai even accuses the local representatives of waiting for the makeshift bridge to collapse so they can then come in, begin constructing a permanent bridge, and seize a photo opportunity.
Residents are increasingly critical of their local representatives, accusing them of neglecting their area in favor of constructing bridges in other regions where they have political interests.
They allege that these representatives are using their power and influence for personal gain rather than focusing on the pressing needs of the communities they are supposed to serve.
Additionally, since the establishment of the local government, residents have voiced concerns that development projects in their area have been deprioritized, further exacerbating their sense of abandonment and frustration.
Multiple attempts to reach Rural Municipality Chairman Shree Prasad Shrestha and Chief Administrative Officer Narayan Prasad Adhikari were unsuccessful.
