CPN (US): Nomination process starts for politburo and officials (with photos)
Kathmandu, August 27 — Elections will take place today for selecting new Politburo members and 18 other officials of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist).
The elections will cover positions including Senior Vice Chairman, Vice Chairmen, Deputy General Secretaries, Secretaries, Treasurer, and 84 Politburo members.
The party's Central Committee consists of 344 members.
Candidate registration is currently underway. Voting is scheduled for today from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., following the completion of processes such as protests, nomination withdrawals, and the publication of the final candidate list.
According to Election Commission Chairman Madhav Paudel, vote counting will continue into the evening.
Only Central Committee members are eligible to participate in the election. Additional organizational structures, including Secretariat and Standing Committee members, will be appointed in the coming days.
Currently, the Central Committee has elected three office bearers: the Chairman, Honorable Leader, and General Secretary.
