Death toll rises to 27 in Aanbookhaireni bus accident
Tanahun, August 23 - The death toll from a bus accident in the Marshyangdi river, located in Ward No. 2 of Aanbookhaireni Rural Municipality, has risen to 27. The accident occurred on Friday when a bus with Indian license plate number 7623 crashed into the river.
Chief District Officer Janardan Gautam reported that 26 fatalities were confirmed in Aanbookhaireni, while one person died in Bharatpur. The cause of the accident is still unknown, and the identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
Gautam also stated that 16 injured individuals have been transported to Kathmandu for treatment. The bus was en route from India to Kathmandu via Pokhara.
SSP Rabindra Regmi of the Gandaki Province Police Office confirmed that among the travellers, two were crew members and 41 were passengers from India. Following the incident, a representative from the Indian Embassy has arrived in Tanahun.
