Avalanche suspected in Khumbu Thame; details still emerging

Kathmandu, August 16 – An avalanche is suspected to have occurred in the Khumbu Thame area of Solukhumbu district.

Chief District Officer Devi Pandey Khatri informed that locals have indicated an avalanche may have burst and flooded the Thame area, but no further details have been confirmed yet.

Khatri noted that while there are concerns about potential major damage in the affected village, detailed information remains elusive due to the remote location of the incident.

The area is approximately three days' journey from the district headquarters.

"We are currently unable to provide more details," Khatri told Ratopati. "The area is quite distant—one day by vehicle and two days on foot."

The Nepal Army and the Nepal Police have been deployed to the area in response to the initial reports.

Additionally, it is anticipated that the floods could impact residents in the Dudhkoshi river basin area.
