New Year 2081 rings in hope and renewal across Nepal

KATHMANDU: Saturday marked the commencement of New Year 2081 in Nepal.

Every Baishakh 1, the first day of the Bikram Sambat calendar, signifies the onset of a new year in Nepali tradition.

While Baishakh 1 on the solar calendar signifies the new year, the lunar calendar considers the first day of the bright fortnight of Chaitra as the new year.

Bikram Sambat, constructed based on the Hindu Panchanga, holds significant cultural importance and is widely respected.

During this festive occasion, people exchange warm wishes and greetings. The eve of the new year is joyously celebrated with friends and family, welcoming the arrival of the new year.

Many devotees visit temples and monasteries to offer prayers, reflecting on their past actions and resolving to overcome shortcomings as they embark on new endeavors with fresh determination and zeal in the coming year.
