Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey resigns
KATHMANDU: Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey of Gandaki Province has officially stepped down from his position.
CM Pandey submitted his resignation to Province Chief Dilli Raj Bhatta on Wednesday.
This decision comes in the wake of the CPN (Maoist Center) withdrawing its support from the government, resulting in CM Pandey losing his majority in the provincial administration.
With the prospect of not securing a vote of confidence, CM Pandey opted to resign today.
Following his resignation, Province Chief Bhatta is set to engage with political parties, as mandated by Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, to facilitate the formation of a new government.
The newly formed ruling alliance is poised to assume control of the provincial government, should it assert its claim.
