Five acquitted, including Cricketers, in match-fixing case
KATHMANDU: In a recent development, the Kathmandu District Court has acquitted five individuals, including cricket all-rounder Adil Ansari and former national cricket player Mahaboob Alam, who were accused of involvement in match-fixing.
The bench, presided over by Judge Kamal Prasad Pokharel, has ruled in favor of the accused, stating that the evidence provided by the petitioners was insufficient to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Chandra Prasad Panthi, the information officer of District Court Kathmandu, confirmed that the court acquitted the five individuals after the government's allegations against them could not be adequately substantiated.
The accused were apprehended on charges of alleged match-fixing during the Nepal T-20 League held in Kathmandu last year. However, they were subsequently released on bail, each required to furnish three hundred thousand rupees.
This verdict marks a significant turn in the case, highlighting the importance of substantial evidence in establishing guilt in legal proceedings.
