Nepali Congress accuses PM of unilateral coalition breakdown
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has accused Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' of unilaterally dismantling the former ruling alliance, according to statements made during the Nepali Congress parliamentary party meeting today.
Ramesh Lekhak, the Nepali Congress chief whip, conveyed that the Congress had consistently adhered to the coalition pact and remained faithful to the alliance. However, Prime Minister Dahal, along with the CPN (Maoist Centre), allegedly acted independently to dissolve the coalition.
Lekhak emphasized the Congress's historical commitment to forming alliances to safeguard the constitution and fortify democratic principles. He highlighted the party's past endeavors in coalition-building, culminating in its participation in elections.
Under the leadership of party president and parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, the meeting delved into recent political developments and resolved to retract the support extended to Maoist Centre Chair Dahal in forming the government.
Lekhak affirmed the Congress's withdrawal of support to the government, with plans to promptly notify the Speaker of this decision. Furthermore, the meeting charted a course for the party to assume the role of a constructive opposition in its capacity as the primary opposition force in the Federal Parliament.
The Nepali Congress, holding the largest representation in the House of Representatives, pledged to champion the interests of the people and instructed its lawmakers to advocate effectively on matters concerning public welfare within the parliament.
