NHRC urges impartial inquiry into Chitwan school tragedy
KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called upon government authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the tragic death of 13-year-old Shalin Pokhrel, an eighth-grader at Ekata Sishu Niketan Boarding School in Chitwan.
Emphasizing the importance of holding accountable those responsible for the incident, NHRC demands swift action.
In a press release issued on Monday, NHRC spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokhrel urged the government to conduct a fair and unbiased investigation.
NHRC also appealed to all concerned parties to refrain from activities that could hinder the investigation process.
Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident, which occurred when eighth-grader Pokhrel was reportedly discovered deceased, having allegedly hanged herself in the school hostel in Tandi, Chitwan, on February 24.
Additionally, the human rights organization has reached out to relevant agencies, including Ekata Sishu Niketan Boarding School, informing them of its own investigation into the matter.
NHRC has also requested the Teaching Hospital at Tribhuvan University, Maharajgunj, for the postmortem report.
NHRC's intervention underscores the need for a transparent and impartial investigation to uncover the truth behind this tragic event and ensure justice for the victim and her family.
