Government allocates Rs. 1 million relief to victim of Barahathawa incident
KATHMANDU: The government has announced a monetary relief of Rs. 1 million for the family of Jay Shankar Sah, who tragically lost his life in a police firing incident during a protest in Barahathawa municipality-6, Sarlahi.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers convened at the Prime Minister's Office, Singha Durbar, on Monday.
Additionally, the meeting approved the extension of the term of the commission tasked with controlling gold smuggling until mid-March.
Communications and Information Minister Rekha Sharma shared these updates, mentioning that the government would also ratify the public procurement (13th amendment) regulation, 2080.
In another development, the Cabinet formed a committee to review the report prepared by the probe commission on the Balkumari incident.
The committee, comprising Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet, and Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Dhan Raj Gurung, is tasked with studying the report and presenting recommendations to the government by March 3.
Furthermore, Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Renu Dahal, has been granted permission by the government to accept the International Mayor Award bestowed by the British government.
Government spokesperson Sharma also informed that the localities affected by the Jakarkot Earthquake would be designated as disaster-hit zones."
