KATHMANDU, Oct 1: A rally has been organized in Kathmandu on Sunday to express gratitude after the Kathmandu Metropolitan City became ready for the management of street vendors. The street vendors held a rally with placards from Ratnapark to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City office.
Activists ‘E:’ were also present at the rally. Kathmandu Metropolitan became ready for the management of street vendors at the initiative of ‘E:’ as a four-point agreement was reached between the activists 'E:' who were on a sit-in demanding the management of street vendors with alternatives, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
In the agreement, it has been stated to return the materials seized from the vendors by the Kathmandu Metropolitan.
Similarly, the Kathmandu Metropolitan will form a study committee to manage businesses in informal places. It has been mentioned in the agreement that, the committee will consist of three people on behalf of the Kathmandu Metropolitan, two representatives from activists ‘E:’ and one representative from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.
The committee will need to submit the report to the Metropolitan within two months. Likewise, the Metropolitan will take an initiative within one week to identify suitable locations for vendors and businessmen who have done business on footpaths and public places, within the Metropolitan Municipality, apart from the locations prohibited by the law.
