Gold smuggling case: CIB to make only 29 people defendants
KATHMANDU, Sep 13: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Police has suggested making only 29 people the defendants in the case of smuggling of 60 kg 716 grams of gold.
According to the investigation report submitted by the Bureau to the District Government Attorney's Office, CIB has suggested to only make 29 people the defendants out of 50 people.
The CIB has arrested 32 people while the other 18 are still absconding. District Attorney Janak Ghimire informed that the submitted report suggested prosecuting only 25 of the arrested and 4 who are absconding. It is reported that the investigation report has a total of 314 pages.
The District Government Attorney's Office will study the misil and decide on the defendants and file a case in the Kathmandu District Court.
The smuggled gold that was brought to Kathmandu from Hong Kong illegally by hiding in a brake pad was seized from Sinamangal by the Revenue Investigation Department on June 19. The investigation in the case, which was handed over to the CIB, has concluded and is about to enter the legal process.
