60 kg gold smuggling case: 30 arrested till now, preparation to submit report today
KATHMANDU, Sep 12: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) is making preparations to submit the investigation report on Tuesday, regarding the smuggling of 60 kg 716 grams of gold that was seized from the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) after completing the investigation on ‘organized gold smuggling’.
Additional Inspector General (AIG) Kiran Bajracharya, the chief of CIB, told Ratopati that the investigation is now in the final phase. 55 days have passed since the Department of Revenue Investigation and CIB started the investigation into the case.
The Department of Revenue Investigation seized the 60 kg 716 grams of gold on July 19. The gold was smuggled from Hong Kong by ‘Ready Trade Pvt. Ltd’ by hiding inside the brake pads of motorcycles and scooters. On August 6, CIB was handed over the responsibility of the investigation by the Department.
30 people have been arrested in the case so far. The District Court Kathmandu, on Monday, permitted to detain the arrestees for investigation for two more days. Before submitting the report, the police have been investigating to arrest some of the accused involved in the smuggling.
