Preparation to appoint new CM in Koshi Province today

BIRATNAGAR, Sep 8: Preparations are ongoing to appoint a new Chief Minister in the Koshi Province on Friday, today. As soon as the Supreme Court issued an order, the office of the provincial chief prepared to appoint Hikmat Karki, the leader of the CPN (UML) Provincial Parliamentary Party, as the Chief Minister.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court dismissed Uddhav Thapa from the position of the Koshi Province’s Chief Minister and issued a mandate to appoint Karki as Chief Minister within 48 hours. The Chief Minister's office said that the chief minister would be appointed after the court's letter was received.

The Supreme Court annulled the vote of confidence taken by the previous Chief Minister Thapa. As per Article 168 (3) of the Constitution, Karki is going to be appointed as the Chief Minister for the second time as the leader of the largest party in the Provincial Assembly after Thapa has been relieved from the position.

UML parliamentary party leader Karki said that no information has been received from the office of the provincial chief yet and that he has been waiting for the letter from the provincial chief's office.
