Koshi Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa relieved of his post
KATHMANDU, Sep 7: The Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Uddhav Thapa, has been relieved of his post. The Supreme Court revoked his position after the vote of confidence obtained by him was deemed unconstitutional.
The full bench of Supreme Court Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Kumar Chudal and Nahakul Subedi issued a mandate to appoint the leader of the largest party as the Chief Minister within 48 hours on Thursday.
Hikmat Karki, the leader of the CPN-UML parliamentary party, which is the largest party in the parliament, is going to become the Chief Minister of the Koshi Province.
The former Chief Minister of the Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, had filed a writ petition against the Koshi government claiming that Chief Minister Thapa obtained the vote of confidence through unconstitutional means.
He had filed a writ against the Province Chief, the Chief Minister and others after Thapa obtained the vote of confidence on August 21 by participating Speaker Israil Mansuri in the voting.
