Case on Organized Gold Smuggling to proceed against Mahara’s son Rahul

Court permits to keep Rahul in custody for 5 days

KATHMANDU, Aug 30: A case against the son of the CPN Maoist Center Vice Chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Rahul, will proceed in the District Court Kathmandu on charges of organized gold smuggling. He was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) team in the case of gold smuggling by hiding inside Vapes, and a case of organized crime is going to proceed against him.

After CIB took Rahul to the Kathmandu District Court for a custody extension on Wednesday, the Court has given the permission to keep him in custody for 5 days. In the case of organized crime, the police can investigate for up to 60 days.

The CIB had submitted an investigation report naming Mahara and his son Rahul as the masterminds of the gold smuggling group. The District Government Attorney's Office instructed the police to investigate them as they did not even take their testimony after mentioning them as the masterminds in the investigation report.

Former Speaker Mahara has been saying that he is ready to help the government in the investigation into the case. He has said that he only knew Wang, a Chinese citizen, as a fruit merchant, and has accused that he has been dragged into the case for no reason.
