One more arrested in 60 kg gold smuggling case
KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Ganesh Paudel, a resident of Palpa, has been arrested in the recent case of smuggling 60 kg 716 grams of gold. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested Paudel, who has been accused of being involved in the smuggling.
With this, the number of arrestees in the case has reached 24. The officers involved in the investigation have said that Chinese citizens are among the main ones involved in the smuggling.
The Department of Revenue Investigation seized the 60 kg 716 grams of gold on July 19. The gold was smuggled from Hong Kong by ‘Ready Trade Pvt. Ltd’ by hiding inside the brake pads of motorcycles and scooters. On August 6, CIB was handed over the responsibility of the investigation by the Department.
The CIB had formed a team under the command of the Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjay Singh Thapa and started the investigation on August 7.
