Declaration to ban disposal of garbage from Kathmandu in landfill site

Bancharedanda Landfill Site Affected Area Concern Committee will not allow garbage to be taken from Kathmandu again. Saying that their demands have not been met, the committee has announced to ban on the disposal of garbage in Bancharedanda from the valley from the 18th of September.

In a press conference in the capital on Monday, the concerned committee said that despite the negative impact on the local residents due to the garbage, the concerned bodies ignored the problem. So they have decided to ban the disposal of garbage from the valley there.

They have demanded that the affected areas should be declared as special sensitive areas and implemented accordingly. The concerned committee has said that pollution-free human settlements and people-less landfill sites are the solution.

They have alleged that the government has not implemented the decisions made on various dates regarding the affected areas and is trying to displace them from their homeland. The concerned committee has stated that under no circumstances will the garbage of Kathmandu Valley be allowed to enter the Bancharedanda area.

They have alleged that the government has not declared the area affected by the landfill site as a special sensitive area, has not maintained a green area free of human settlements, and has not banned hospital waste, toxic waste, and industrial waste.

Sriram Dhungana, coordinator of the Bancharedanda Landfill Site Affected Area Concern Committee, said that although their lives are in a state of life and death, the state has not shown any interest in solving the problem.

He warned that 10,000 people would come and live in Tundikhel if forced by the government from September 18.

Landfill site victim Hari Lama said that humans cannot live together with garbage. He alleges that they have been neglected by the Kathmandu Metropolitan, the Provincial Government and the Government of Nepal.

Manoj Tamang, also a victim of the landfill site, said that now the locals should hold a protest against the Metropolitan. According to him, the locals cannot live suffering anymore.

Another landfill site victim Dipesh Neupane said that the protest was announced because the locals were suffering.
