East-West Highway blocked by locals as truck kills woman in Rautahat

JANAKPURDHAM, Aug 24: A woman has died on the spot after being hit by a truck in Rautahat.

Hom Maya Magar, 55, was killed by the truck numbered Na 6 Pa 1500 at East-West Highway in Rautahat Chandrapur Municipality-1, DSP Umashankar Yadav informed.

According to the locals, the woman was injured after being hit by the truck. But instead of rescuing her, the truck ran over her, killing her on the spot.  The locals, enraged at the death of the woman, seized the truck and set it on fire. They also vandalised the bus and severely damaged it. 

DSP Yadav said that the Police tried to put out the fire, with the help of firefighters, but couldn't bring the fire under control immediately. He informed that the locals also threw stones at the firefighter's truck.

The locals have blocked the East-West Highway in protest. The Police are trying to reach an agreement with both sides, informed DSP Yadav.
