Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha approved as Chief Justice

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Acting Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha has been approved for the post of Chief Justice. He was unanimously approved for the post in the hearing of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee on Monday.

The Committee will have to write and send the approved letter to the Constitutional Council. The meeting of the Council held on the 3rd of August had recommended Shrestha for the post of Chief Justice.

Shrestha will remain as the Chief Justice for about 14 months after being approved for the post. Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha - who was born on October 6, 1959 - will go on a compulsory retirement at age 65 due to the age limit.

Shrestha took over the duties of the judiciary as the Acting Chief Justice after Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki retired on the 5th of August due to age limit.
