Gold smuggling case: Gold weight decreases after smelting

KATHMANDU, Aug 15: Rastra Bank has finished smelting the smuggled gold that was seized by the Department of Revenue Investigation.

An official of the Rastra Bank informed Ratopati that the gold was confirmed to weigh 60 kg and 716 grams after smelting it.

The smelting process started at 10:30 am on Tuesday in the presence of representatives of concerned agencies and security agencies at the Mint Division of the Nepal Rastra Bank.

The gold that was separated from the brake pads weighed 60 kilograms and 789 grams before smelting it. 

The Department of Revenue Investigation had recently seized the gold after it was passed through the customs check pass. The Department of Revenue Investigation has given the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) the responsibility to investigate the gold smuggling case.
