Gold smelting ends, weight being made public

KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The smelting process of the gold that was smuggled by hiding inside the brake pads of motorcycles, has been completed.

The smelting started at 10:30 am on Tuesday in the presence of representatives of concerned agencies and security agencies at the Mint Division of the Nepal Rastra Bank. The chief of the Division, Thaneshwar Acharya, informed that preparations are being made to make public the weight of the gold.

The gold that was separated from the brake pads on Monday weighed 60 kilograms and 789 grams. The Department of Revenue Investigation had recently seized the gold after it was passed through the customs check pass. The Department of Revenue Investigation has given the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) the responsibility to investigate the gold smuggling case.
