Illegal 60 kg gold being smelted

KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The smelting of the gold that was smuggled to Nepal by hiding inside the brake pads of motorcycles, has begun at the Mint division of the Nepal Rastra Bank. The gold is being smelted in the presence of representatives of concerned agencies and security agencies.

The work of separating the gold from the brake pads was finished yesterday, which concluded that the separated gold weighed 60 kilograms 789 grams, and the quantity can decrease further after the smelting process.

The Chief of the Mint Division Thaneshwar Acharya said that the purity and economic tests will begin after the smelting is over. Only then will the quantity and quality of the gold be known.
