KATHMANDU, Aug 6: The senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, has been given the responsibility of judiciary as Acting Chief Justice today.

He became the Acting Chief Justice as Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki got retirement on age limit yesterday.

Assuming the office as Acting Chief Justice, Shrestha directed the subordinates to carry out responsibilities smoothly by taking into account the constitution and law. He informed that he would hold discussions with Justices and formulate immediate and long-term plans to settle the cases on time.

He however urged all sides concerned including all Justices and judicial administration for the reform in judiciary. Shrestha has already been recommended as the 31st CJ by the meeting of the Constitutional Council.

Although the parliamentary hearing committee has endorsed Shretha as CJ, there is a constitutional provision that President appoints the CJ, for which it will take some time.
