Uttarakhand landslide update: 3 dead bodies found, 19 still missing
KEDARNATH, Aug 5: Nineteen people, including thirteen Nepalese, have gone missing in a landslide in Gaurikund in Uttarakhand state of India.
Thirteen Nepalese and six Indians went missing after three hotels, operated by Nepalese, were swept away by the landslide. The landslide was caused by the heavy rainfall that has occurred since Thursday night.
According to the Indian Police, the bodies of three Nepalese - who had gone missing - have been discovered.
Ten people from the Jumla district and three from Humla went missing in the landslide. Among the people from Jumla, seven were reported to be from the same family.
Ward President of the Patarasi-3 Jumla, Govinda Rawat, informed that a family from Chaurgaun in Patarasi-3 including Amar Bohara, his sons Man Bahadur, Prithvi, Jatil and Wakil, his wife Anita and daughters Radhika and Pinky went missing in the landslide.
Rural Municipality Chairman Purna Singh Bohara also informed that Chandra Nepali, 22, and Dhanraj Budha, 55, from Pere, Patarasi-2 went missing in the same landslide.
Indian Police have also informed that Sukharam Rawat from Patarasi-2, Jumla and Humla's Bir Bahadur, his wife Sumitra, daughter Nisha and son Hari Bahadur went missing due to the landslide.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commanded the Nepalese Embassy in Dehli to cooperate with the Indian government to search for the missing.
