Customs agent Rukmina released from custody

KATHMANDU, Aug 4: Rukmina Subba, who was arrested in the case of smuggling of around 100 kgs of gold, has been released. Subba is a customs agent.

Navaraj Adhikari, Information Officer of the Department of Revenue Investigation, informed Ratopati that she was released on the condition that she would be present when called because she was suffering from cancer.

He said that she was released for treatment purposes, and not because she was not involved in the gold case. She is undergoing treatment for throat cancer. Adhikari said that she was released after it was found that she needed to undergo chemotherapy.

The Department of Revenue Investigation is investigating a quintal of gold seized from outside the gate of Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office on July 19. 17 people, including Chinese and Indian nationals, are currently in custody on charges of being involved in gold smuggling.
