HoR meeting adjourned till August 7

KATHMANDU, August 1: The meeting of the House of Representatives scheduled to be held on Tuesday has been adjourned until the 7th of July.

The meeting was postponed as the ruling party and the opposition party CPN-UML could not come to an agreement on forming a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the gold smuggling case.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire announced the adjournment of the meeting by posting a notice at the request of the Chief Whip of the ruling party, after the ruling party couldn’t come to an agreement during a meeting with the Chief Whip of the opposition party.

CPN-UML has been obstructing the HoR meeting since the 26th of July. The ruling party and the primary opposition party have been going back and forth over the 1 quintal of gold that was smuggled through the Tribhuwan Airport Customs Office. So far, 18 people including a Belgian citizen have been arrested in the gold smuggling case.
