Gold smuggling case: HoR meeting uncertain
KATHMANDU, August 1: The primary opposition party CPN-UML is going to obstruct the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday today as well. The parliament was postponed to be held on Tuesday today at 1 pm after it was obstructed yesterday.
UML whip Mahesh Bartaula stated that the meeting today will be obstructed as the government has not formed a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the gold smuggling case.
“Yesterday, the discussion between the Prime Minister and our Chairman KP Sharma Oli about clearing the obstruction of the Parliament was not positive”, Bartaula told Ratopati,
“The government has not given up on its stance to not form an inquiry committee in any circumstances. There is no possibility of reaching an agreement until they forfeit that stance.”
CPN-UML has been obstructing the HoR meeting since the 26th of July. The government and the primary opposition party have been going back and forth over the 1 quintal of gold that was smuggled through the Tribhuwan Airport Customs Office. So far, 18 people including a Belgian citizen have been arrested in the gold smuggling case.
