Hearing of Customs agent's habeas corpus in Justice Chudal's bench

KATHMANDU, July 26: The hearing of the habeas corpus filed in the Supreme Court by Customs agent of the Revenue Investigation Department, Yadav Parajuli, has been scheduled for Wednesday.

Agent no. 782 Parajuli was arrested by the Department of Revenue Investigation and is under investigation in the case of smuggling about 1 quintal of illegal gold.

Parajuli's habeas corpus has been scheduled to be heard in the bench of Justice Kumar Chudal. Advocate Bikram Bhandari registered the writ in the Supreme Court on behalf of Parajuling, claiming that he was detained illegally.

On July 18, a team from the Customs Department seized a 'break pad' containing gold from a taxi driver that was smuggled to Kathmandu through Cathay Pacific Airlines after it came out of the Customs office.

Using Parajuli's agent number, Agent Rajendra Rai filled out the notification form and smuggled the gold out from the Tribhuwan Airport Customs Office.
