Gold not found in 6 boxes seized from Customs Department

KATHMANDU, July 24: Officials involved in the investigation of the illegal gold smuggled from the Tribhuwan Airport Customs Office announced that no gold was found in the 6 suspicious boxes seized by the Department of Revenue Investigation.

The Department of Revenue Investigation previously seized 6 suspicious boxes from the Tribhuwan Airport Customs Office on the 20th of July. The seized goods were brought to Kathmandu by 'Ready Trade Pvt Ltd' and 'Dolakha Electric' through cargo. 

An official of the Department of Revenue Investigation told Ratopati that a shaving machine was found in the boxes. "No gold was found when the box was opened on Monday", the official stated.

Around 1 quintal of illegal gold smuggled from the Tribhuwan International Airport was reported to be ordered by the "Ready Trade Pvt Ltd" company. After discovering more goods from the same company, the Department of Revenue Investigation seized them on suspicion of containing illegal gold.

On July 18, a team from the Customs Department seized a 'break pad' containing gold from a taxi driver that was smuggled to Kathmandu through Cathay Pacific Airlines after it came out of the Customs office. The Department of Revenue Investigation is currently investigating the case with the help of the Armed Police. The exact weight of the seized gold is yet to be determined.
