Gold smuggling case: Officer in charge of viewing X-ray suspended
KATHMANDU, July 22: Tribhuwan Airport Officer Saroj Shrestha has been suspended in the case of smuggling about 1 quintal of illegal gold. Shrestha was in charge of viewing the X-ray on the day the gold was smuggled.
The Customs Department has already suspended two employees of the office. The suspended employees are Customs Inspector Officer Santosh Chanda and Inspector Kumar Dhakal.
A team from the Customs Department seized the illegal that was smuggled to Kathmandu through Cathay Pacific Airlines after it came out of the Customs office. 10 people, including a Chinese citizen, have already been arrested in this case.
The department formed a team under the leadership of the Director of the Investigation Branch, Man Bahadur Paudel, to investigate the involvement of the Customs Office employees.
