Committee formed to investigate Police torture incident
SIRAHA, July 12: An inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the torture of a police constable working in the Siraha District Police Office who was tortured inside the office premises. The office's inspector Hemanta Rai has been accused of torturing the police constable Anu Raya by tying his hands and feet.
In a viral video on social media, the police constable Raya can be heard crying and asking for his hands to be untied. In response to the question asked by the person in the video, he said, "I have not consumed alcohol, please untie my hand. If it is proven that I consumed alcohol, I will quit my job."
Madhes Province Police Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Janak Bhattarai revealed that an inquiry committee was formed as soon as he got information about the incident.
"I also got information about the incident. As I came to Siraha today by chance, I have formed an inquiry committee. Necessary actions will be taken after the reports from the committee", he said.
Police Constable Raya was revealed to have been abused after he went to Inspector Rai to complain about overworking. It was claimed that constable Raya was tortured for 12 hours by tying his hands and feet after he talked back to the Inspector. Police constable Raya can be heard crying in the video and saying, "Don't torture me like this, kill me."
Raya's relatives have stated that they will go to court for justice.
