Hearing against Koshi Chief Minister's appointment postponed for third time

KATHMANDU, July 11: The writ petition filed in the Supreme Court against the appointment of Uddhav Thapa as the Koshi Province's Chief Minister could not be heard for the third day today.

The writ was scheduled to be heard in the single bench of Justice Til Prasad Shrestha on Tuesday. But the petition was placed on the 'can't be seen' list as Justice Shrestha had to attend a joint bench related to habeas corpus.

The outgoing Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Karki filed a writ petition through on Friday against the newly elected Chief Minister Thapa, Provincial Chief Parshuram Khapung and Speaker Baburam Gautam.

Karki has claimed that in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution, including the Speaker while appointing the government is against the Constitution.

In accordance with Article 168 Clause 3 of the Constitution, the outgoing Chief Minister Karki has requested a mandate to appoint himself as the Chief Minister as the leader of the largest parliamentary party in the Provincial Assembly.
