Hearing against Koshi Chief Minister's appointment postponed

KATHMANDU, July 10: The writ petition filed in the Supreme Court against the appointment of Uddhav Thapa as the Koshi Province's Chief Minister could not be heard on the second day today.

The petition was placed on the 'can't be seen' list by the bench of Justice Sushmalta Mathema after the court was unable to hear the writ.

The outgoing Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Karki filed a writ petition through on Friday against the newly elected Chief Minister Thapa, Provincial Chief Parshuram Khapung and Speaker Baburam Gautam.

Karki has claimed that in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution, including the Speaker while appointing the government is against the Constitution.

In accordance with Article 168 Clause 3 of the Constitution, the outgoing Chief Minister Karki has requested a mandate to appoint himself as the Chief Minister as the leader of the largest parliamentary party in the Provincial Assembly.
