KATHMANDU, June 26: A judicial council meeting has been called for Monday to appoint judges in the 41 vacant positions of the High Courts.
According to the spokesperson of the Judicial Council Man Bahadur Karki, the council meeting has been called for 1 pm on Monday as per the instruction of Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki. Appointment of vacant judges in the High Courts and 'Miscellaneous' are kept on the agenda of the meeting.
Even though there are 41 vacant positions for the judges of the High Courts, a decision might be made on Monday regarding the 27 judges who have been said to be selected for the positions based on the work procedure made earlier.
Earlier, a meeting of the Judicial Council presided over by the then acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki, prepared a short list for recommending judges to the High Court and a request was made from the advocates. Also, the Council has already prepared a list of 25 advocates who are willing to become judges in the High Courts.
Based on the procedures prepared by the Judicial Council, 27 judges can be appointed immediately. In the case of the remaining 14 and other judges who will be vacant after that, the list has not been prepared and the application has not been requested yet. So the remaining judges may not be appointed immediately, as the process is not yet completed.
