Citizenship Bill Authentication debate: Order to come today

KATHMANDU, June 22: The bench of Justices Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Kumar Regmi has given time to debate the writ against the Citizenship Bill till 4:30 pm. 

The time for the initial hearing on behalf of the writ petitioner has been fixed from 11:25 am to 1 pm. Similarly, the government attorney has been given time from 1 pm to 3 pm to debate. Judge Anand Mohan Bhattarai has issued a circular in the bench that the hearing will continue even though it is lunchtime.

Time has been given from 3 pm to 4 pm to debate on behalf of the stakeholders in the said writ. After the debate is over, the writ petitioners have been given an extra half an hour time if they have to answer or clarify. Thus, Judge Bhattarai has issued a circular to finish the debate by 4:30 pm.

In the debate which started at 11:25 in the morning, senior advocate Balkrishna Neupane finished the debate. Following that, senior advocate Dr. Surendra Bhandari is debating against certification.

The Citizenship Bill sent by the previous government was held by the then President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, and after the current President Ramchandra Paudel authenticated the Bill, a writ was filed against the authentication. A writ was filed against the authentication saying that the President had acted against the law and the constitution.
