19 Hydropower Projects damaged after floods in Eastern Nepal
KATHMANDU, June 21: 19 Hydropower Projects have been damaged due to the effect of the floods and landslides that have terrorized eastern Nepal. The disaster that happened on the 16th and 17th of June damaged the hydropower projects of Taplejung, Panchthar and Sankhuwasabha districts.
The floods have damaged Upper Hewa Khola 8.5 MW, Hewa Khola 4.5 MW and Super Hewa Khola 5 MW Hydropower projects made in the basin of the rivers Hewa Khola, Piluwa Khola and Maya Khola in the Sankhuwasabha district.
Similarly, Upper Piluwa Khola 4 MW, Down Piluwa 9.9 MW, Piluwa Khola 3 MW, Piluwa Khola 4 MW, Down Piluwa 0.9 MW, Maya Khola 14.9 MW and other Projects have also been damaged. 18 laborers and workers working in the Super Hewa Khola project have gone out of contact. 4 have been found dead.
Likewise, Ingwa Khola 9.7 MW, Iwa Khola 9 MW, Kabeli B 91.25 MW, Kabeli B 91 Cascade 10 MW, Hewa Khola A14.9 MW and Hewa Khola 5 MW made in the basin of the rivers Ingwa, Iwa, Kabeli and Hewa Khola in the Taplejung and Panchthar districts have also been damaged.
Lower Hewa Khola 22.1 MW, Super Kabeli Cascade 12 MW, Kabeli 21.93 MW and Super Kabeli Khola A 13.5 MW hydropower projects have also been damaged.
As it seems that it will take at least 1 year to rebuild the damaged projects and bring them back to their initial condition, IPPAN has requested to extend the loan period.
