Flood-landslide disaster update: 28 missing, 2 dead

BIRATNAGAR, June 18: 28 people have gone missing in a flood and landslide after the heavy rainfall that occurred in Koshi Province last night. 2 people were confirmed dead on Sunday.

According to Koshi Province Police Office's Head Rajeshnath Bastola, one person died in Taplejung because of a landslide and one in Sankhuwasabha by the flood.

Among the 28 who went missing, Sankhuwasabha has the most amount of disappearances by far. 20 people were estimated to have gone missing in Sankhuwasabha, Koshi Province Police Office informed.

15 employees of Super Hewakhola Hydropower have gone missing in the flood. Among the 18, only 3 of them were found according to the Police. 4 more people also went missing in the Makalu Rural Municipality of the same district. One dead body was discovered according to the Police.

Similarly, 5 more people have gone missing in Pachthar. Employees of Hewa-1 Hydropower Project Dilkumar Tamang from Hilihang 7, Sanjog Lowa from Phidim-10. Ashish Majhi and Alisha Majhi from Phidim-4 and one more person are among the ones who disappeared in the flood.

Three members of the same family have gone missing from Sidingwa Rural Municipality in Taplejung. Yadav Budhathoki's wife Bhagimaya, his daughter-in-law Sandhya and his grandson Prajwal went missing when the landslide swept away his home. The dead body of one of the family members has been found. Their identity is yet to be revealed, the Police informed.

One more person also went missing in the same area according to the Police.
