Harikrishna Karki approved for Chief Justice
KATHMANDU, June 16: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has decided to approve the acting Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki for the position of Chief Justice.
It was decided to approve Karki for the Chief Justice after the hearing held on Thursday and Friday in the hearing committee hall at Singha Darbar. The chairman of the committee Pashupati Shamsher Rana informed that Karki was unanimously approved for the position of the Chief Justice.
Karki presented the action plan for his term in Thursday’s meeting and faced questions from the parliamentarians on Friday. He has expressed his commitment to making the Supreme Court free from corruption, controlling the middlemen, and maintaining good governance.
The MPs accused him of taking people’s lands, taking bribes, neglecting old cases but advancing the case that came 2 months ago, financial manipulation in building the Supreme Court building, and so on. Karki however said that the allegations against him were baseless and that he would resign anytime if the allegations are confirmed.
The Constitutional Council had recommended appointing Karki for the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on May 8, 2023.
