Supreme Court orders to bring documents of Citizenship Bill Authentication
KATHMANDU, June 9: The Supreme Court has ordered to bring copies of the Citizenship Bill authenticated by President Ramchandra Paudel. The joint bench of Justices Sushmalata Mathema and Prakashman Singh Raut on Friday gave the order. The Supreme Court has ordered a copy of the bill authenticated by the President and set a date for Tuesday, June 13 for discussion on whether to issue an interim order or not.
Senior Advocate Surendra Bhandari and Advocate Balkrishna Neupane filed a petition asking the Supreme Court not to implement the Citizenship Bill authenticated by President Ramchandra Poudel, saying it was against the spirit of the Constitution.
On the writ registered on June 2, the single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma issued a short-term interim order and called for a discussion of the interim order on June 4. Issuing a show-cause order in the name of the government and calling for a short-term interim order and its discussion, the writ was filed again on Friday. The writ petitioners have claimed that the president's act of authentication of the defunct bill was against the constitution.
