Short-term interim order issued not to implement the Citizenship Act
KATHMANDU, June 4: An interim order was issued to the government not to immediately implement the Citizenship Act which was authenticated by President Ramchandra Poudel. The short-term interim order was issued by the bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma on Sunday.
The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause order and called for a meeting on the grounds and reason why the interim order should not be given, if there is no need to issue an interim order not to implement the Act.
The authentication of the Bill was postponed by former President Bidhya Devi Bhandari in the previous tenure of the House of Representatives. A writ was filed by senior Advocate Surendra Bhandari and Balkrishna Neupane in the Supreme Court after the Bill was authenticated by President Ramchandra Poudel on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
