Writ filed against authentication of Citizenship Bill in Justice Sharma’s bench

KATHMANDU, July 4: The writ filed against the Citizenship Bill has been scheduled for hearing in Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma’s bench.

The authentication of the Bill was postponed by former President Bidhya Devi Bhandari in the previous tenure of the House of Representatives.  A writ was filed in the Supreme Court after the Bill was authenticated by President Ramchandra Poudel on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

The writ was filed against the President’s Office by senior Advocate Surendra Bhandari and Balkrishna Neupane. They claimed that authenticating the bill passed by the previous Parliament by the President was unconstitutional.
